my last time with the kills was in angouleme, back in 2008 (2007 ? maybe). midnight boom was out and at first, i hated this new record.

en 2006 j’étais tombée amoureuse de Hit the floor, premier album du “dance punk” des You Say Party ! We Say Die ! – j’avais sagement couru à leur concert à la Boule Noire fin 2007 (?) et j’écoutais très fort The Gap, Cold hands! Hot bodies! et He! She! You! Me! They! We! Us! Ok! en alternance avec U.O.R. d’Electrelane..

en 2009-2010, j’ai posé mes valises à vancouver, bc. en partie pour la scène musicale. You Say Party! We Say Die! écrivait alors XXXX et je du attendre des mois avant de les voir se produire sur scène. En janvier 2010, le groupe ouvrait pour Phoenix lors d’une cérémonie pour les Jeux Olympiques. Très loin du Paris crade et d’Hit the floor.

sans les rencontrer, mes photos plaisaient au groupe et au label. et j’allais etre à paris au moment de leur tournée printanière avant une tragédie, des remaniements et des mois de silence qui transformaient le groupe en You Say Party.

le 1er novembre 2010, grace à Melanie de Paperbag Records, nous avions tous rendez-vous à Paris pour leur concert à la Flèche d’Or : j’avais carte blanche, mon seul nikon fe, un 50mm et un grand angle, que du noir et blanc.

Nouvelle Vague is a French musical collective led by Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux. Members, former members and contributors include French artists, mostly female singers, such as Mélanie Pain, Camille Dalmais, Mareva Galanter, Helena Noguerra but also Phoebe Killdeer, Liset Alea and Nadeah Miranda. Their songs are new-wave, punk rock, post-punk covers rearranged in a bossa nova style. On November 30th, they played at the Casino de Paris with guests (Adrienne Pauly, Hugh Coltman, Louis) and I was there to document the day from soundcheck to the end of the show. I made the choice to document the day with my nikon fe and 3200 asa black and white films only.

Second and last week at the Brussels Summer Festival. The Place des Musées was packed ! I missed Hocus Pocus and Craig Walker (ex-singer of Archive) but here are photos of Nouvelle Vague, Gush, Freaky Age, My Little Cheap Dictaphone and Skip the Use.

After 5 days of festival (out of 9), here are some shots of what happened in Brussels. I did not attend all the shows and the highlight of this first “week” was sunday night. micky green, caravan palace and gotan project played on the main stage and we stayed under the rain for 4 hours. i don’t have a cold yet and my gear is more or less safe now (see what i look like when i shoot under the rain). my first and only rain experience was in seattle, september 2009 but i have to say that brussels just won. plus, the festival does not have a press room…

So here are some shots. More to come after the end of the Festival… I am looking forward to take photos of Nouvelle Vague again. I remember that I had so much fun in Vancouver, February 2010. Also we no longer have to shoot bands on the Main stage and I am happy about stage… It was twice my size… (drawing later).

from april 15th to may 9th, 10 photos were on the walls of gals rock, an indie store in paris. it was a tiny, cute, small thing showing only 10 photos taken in one night.

as i wrote before, barbieturix asked me to take photos at the last parisian show of the festival les femmes s’en melent and at the after show at la machine. tender forever, duchess says, dance yourself to death, men performed that night.

all the photos are the result of the diana f+ / flash / 400 asa.
photos are for sale. 20×20cm. not signed but with stamped date, name of the exhibition, my name.

it’s a long long long story to tell you how i got to take photos of phoenix in vancouver, 3 months ago. a long story with the help of rod maurice from le hiboo and luck. the show was pretty amazing and the crowd invaded the stage at the end of the set. after 10 months in vancouver, it was the 1st time that the audience was so demonstrative. even crazier than during the gossip or peaches.

i took a photo of this moment and you can now see in the new issue of spin magazine, which is also the 25th anniversary edition. check the soundcheck section, and read the article about kim gordon and charlotte gainsbourg. it’s my 1st publication in a major american magazine and it’s a black and white photo, double page. hope !

people in paris, i know for sure that you can find a copy at WH Smith, 248 rue de Rivoli 75001. I used to work there !

I both use digital and film cameras. One of my favorite camera is the Canon Dial 35 that a friend gave me, and my favorite part of photography is the contact sheet moment.

I don’t own a scanner, and I no longer have a dark room but I love this raw material. I’ve decided to show you some contacts of my lastest roll.

It’s an expired film, fuji 400 asa, color. I take photos of the developped film and then turn it into black and white. All the serie is supposed to be in color and I hope I’ll be able to show the prints soon.

Contact sheets reveal a lot but the developing is missing. Here is my roll of San Francisco/Portland/Vancouver from end of December 2009 to February 2010. Also, the Canon Dial 35 is a pretty rad camera so I’ve c/c its presentation.

“The Canon Dial 35 was an unconventional half-frame 35mm camera with clockwork automatic film advance. It was made in Japan by Canon from November 1963.

The body had an unusual “portrait” format rectangular shape, with a short, wide-diameter lens barrel containing the CdS meter photocells window around the 28mm lens. Rotating the lens barrel set the speed of the Seikosha shutter; the aperture was set automatically. A button below the viewfinder could be pulled out to give manual aperture control, for manual exposure settings or flash. Film speed was set on a scale around the meter window.

Focus was set on a lever around the top of the lens barrel, with a display inside the viewfinder.

There was a cylindrical handle at the bottom, which also wound the clockwork mechanism. On the (users) left is an accessory shoe. The film ran vertically, from the cassette at the top to the take-up spool at the bottom, giving a landscape-format 24×18mm frame when the camera is upright.” Source : http://www.camerapedia.org/wiki/Canon_Dial_35
